About the Project

From Open Forex Platform Wiki

The core concept of this project to create an open source financial instruments trading platform. The scope of the project is not limited only to Forex, so despite its name, it allows one to trade any instrument that the corresponding selected broker provides. We are currently looking at possibilities to extend the list of traded instruments as much as possible, and this will happen in time.

The goals of this Platform are to bring the community of financial programming talent together in a solid, versatile environment, where all can collaborate in a modern non-broker specific programming environment. Our personal belief is that building good trading strategies requires modern tools, and that any broker specific solution (be it a proprietary language, or a specific API) is too limiting for long term success and should be evaded. The idea for building strategies is "write once, apply anywhere" - with the Open Forex Platform the same trading strategy source code be applied to historical data back testing, real time live testing or real time trading on any one broker, without any changes to the original source.

With this in mind, the entire platform is designed to be an environment and provide services to the trading entity (be it a person, or a machine). The integration is to make an application flexible enough so that all forms of trading can be accommodated in it, with a preference towards automated (machine) and semi-automated (human - machine, or machine assisted manual trading) systems.

The platform is geared more to be a "user side" solution, rather than "broker side" meaning it aims to ease and empower the end user allowing him or her to select the best conditions for his trading.
